Rievaulx

Abbey &
|
One of the most impressive and well preserved abbeys we have ever seen.
Wish we could say we have seen the inside but friends and colleagues tell us it
is magnificent. It is open between March & September.

House, Temple

Lord & Lady Feversham's ancestral home dates from 1713 and is surrounded by
35 acres of 18th century woodland with waymarked trails and orienteering.

York
|
Minster &
|
In the heart of York city this one of the finest places of worship in England
today. The masonry around all elevations is outstanding and inside is just as
awe inspiring. Walking round the famous city walls provides an excellent insight
into all that York has to offer. Then when you have seen all, there is always the
shopping, a show or a meal to round off the day. |

Whitby
|
Castle &
|
Whitby Castle is fascinating. On arrival you hire a hand set that guides you
through the castle grounds and abbey, providing interesting and humorous facts
along the way - even the younger generation enjoy the commentary. There is a
gift shop on site but we would have preferred a mid-point refreshment,
especially if it is a very warm day - take a bottle. |

Helmsley
|
Castle |
We found this to be a very different but also interesting type of castle. It is
more like a large house or monastery in style. It is not inhabited but is well
maintained, even to the leaded light windows. Helmsley is a quaint little town
with some exceptional shops, so once you have seen the castle the town is well
worth a visit. If you stay into the evening, try Gepetos (see Food 4 Thought) if
you can get in at short notice. |

Scarborough
|
Church |
Scarborough's most ancient church, full of history & beauty. Often ravaged by
war this church is as old as the castle but in much better condition. The church
also houses Anne Bronte's grave and some Civil War ruins. There are also
some superb views over the bay. |
